“Lake Bled is perhaps Slovenia’s most recognized destination, yet it never fails to surprise me,” Vunduk explains. “The combination of the island church, the medieval castle on the cliff, and the Julian Alps as a backdrop creates layers of visual interest that change dramatically with the seasons and weather.”

“Timing is everything here,” he notes. “You need the right temperature differential, the right humidity, and you need to be in position before first light. But when it all comes together—when those first rays illuminate the Alpine backdrop and the mist begins to glow—it’s a moment that stays with you forever.”
Jamnik: The Balcony of Gorenjska
Known locally as “The Balcony of Gorenjska,” Jamnik offers sweeping panoramic views across rolling hills toward Slovenia’s highest peaks. The small church of Saints Primus and Felician stands as a timeless subject, but Vunduk treasures this location for more than its views.
“Some of my most memorable moments at Jamnik have nothing to do with photography,” he recalls with a smile. “There are horses that graze here, and they’re wonderfully curious. One morning, a friendly horse picked up my backpack and carried it several meters away. These unexpected encounters—this connection with the landscape and its inhabitants—that’s what makes a location truly special.”
Blejski Vintgar: A Walk Through Nature’s Gallery
The Vintgar Gorge, carved over millennia by the Radovna River, stretches 1.6 kilometers through dramatic rock formations. Wooden walkways suspended above emerald pools and cascading waterfalls create what Vunduk calls “a photographer’s playground.”
“Every section of the gorge offers different compositions—the interplay of light filtering through the canyon walls, the motion of water over ancient stone, the geometric patterns of the wooden bridges against organic rock. It’s a masterclass in finding intimate landscapes within a larger scene.”

He pauses, then adds: “Photography allows me to express my natural curiosity and to explore the interplay between the outer landscape and my inner landscape. Slovenia, being my homeland, offers that connection in its purest form.”
